Stronghold announced as official production roaster sponsor for World Coffee Roasting Championship

Introduction

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has revealed that Stronghold will be the Official Production Roaster Sponsor for the 2024-2027 World Coffee Roasting Championship (WCRC). The partnership will see Stronghold’s S9X roaster provided for the 2024 WCRC. The production roaster is an essential piece of equipment for the competition, with champions using it for practice and production roasting.

The World Coffee Roasting Championship

The WCRC is an annual event that celebrates excellence in coffee roasting. Competitors are evaluated on their coffee evaluation, preparation, blending, and overall skill across practice, sample, and production roasts. Since its inception in 2013, the competition has seen significant growth, with 130 competitors taking part in the eight editions.

Stronghold’s role and partnership

Qualified sponsors play a crucial role in making the World Coffee Championships possible by providing the necessary equipment for competitors. Stronghold has been selected as the official production roaster for the 2024-2027 WCRC. This long-term partnership comes after the company’s successful involvement in other SCA initiatives and events in recent years.

Words from the SCA and Stronghold

Yannis Apostolopoulos, SCA Chief Executive Officer, expressed his excitement about the partnership. “Stronghold is a fantastic partner, and we are delighted to welcome them as the official production roaster for the 2024-2027 World Coffee Roasting Championships, as we see this competition grow,” he said.

Jason Woo, Stronghold Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of roasting technology. “As we usher in the era of all-electric commercial roasting, we are thrilled that our efforts have been acknowledged, being selected as the official production equipment for the prestigious World Coffee Roasting Championship,” Woo said. He also emphasized the importance of sustainability and bringing an economically and environmentally sustainable future to the global stage.

Upcoming event

The partnership between Stronghold and the WCRC will begin with the 2024 event, which will be hosted at World of Coffee Copenhagen, Denmark, in June. Both parties are looking forward to an exciting partnership over the coming years.
