Introducing the BIRD: A Revolutionary Coffee Brewer That Blends the Best of Espresso and Pour-Over

A Whole New Way to Brew

Weber Workshops, the innovative company known for its cutting-edge coffee equipment, is excited to announce the launch of the BIRD coffee brewer. This groundbreaking machine is not your typical espresso maker, French Press, or pour-over device. Instead, it offers a unique brewing style that combines the best elements of both espresso and pour-over methods.

Exploring Uncharted Territory

The BIRD is designed to navigate the middle ground between espresso and pour-over, allowing baristas and coffee enthusiasts to explore uncharted territories in brewing. Whether you’re a professional barista or a coffee lover brewing at home, the BIRD offers a whole new platform to discover and enjoy the flavors of your favorite beans.

A Brew Like No Other

At first glance, the BIRD may resemble a French Press, but its brew style and the resulting coffee are completely different. The BIRD’s patent-pending mechanism creates piston-actuated vacuum pressure brews in a glass device, resulting in a unique and aromatic cup of coffee.

One of the key features of the BIRD is its ability to use finely-ground coffee, allowing for rich extractions at any roast level. Whether you prefer a light or dark roast, the BIRD can bring out the best flavors in your beans. The device also offers the option to use either a paper or a fine mesh stainless filter, giving you even more control over your brew.

A Perfect Brew for Every Occasion

With a capacity of up to 350mL, the BIRD is perfect for single users or for small gatherings of 3-4 adults. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet cup of coffee by yourself or hosting a brunch with friends, the BIRD can accommodate your brewing needs.

How It Works

The BIRD operates using three main components: the Glass, the Pod, and the Gizmo. The Pod, assembled with a paper or mesh filter, is placed at the bottom of the Glass. Freshly ground coffee is then poured into the Glass above the Pod, and hot water is added on top of the coffee.

The Gizmo, which resembles a cap with a propeller mechanism, is placed on top of the Glass. With a few plunges using the Crown, the Gizmo creates a vortex to evenly agitate the coffee and water mixture. The brew time can range from a few seconds to several minutes, depending on your preferred recipe.

Once the brewing process is complete, the Wingnut is rotated to start the filtration process. This lifts the Pod from the bottom of the glass, creating a vacuum that pulls the coffee through the filter. The result is a clean and aromatic brew that showcases the true potential of your beans.

Designed for Performance and Durability

The BIRD is built to last, with high-quality materials and construction. The glass vessel is easily replaceable, and spare parts will be readily available. The brewing Pod is made of 316 stainless steel, ensuring its longevity. The Wingnut and Spinner knob are solid machined Brass, while the main shaft and paddle-lifter are made of Stainless Steel. The handle is extruded and anodized aluminum, designed to stay cool to the touch.

What the Founder Has to Say

Douglas Weber, Founder and CEO of Weber Workshops, explains the inspiration behind the BIRD: “We wanted to approach brewing equipment from an unexplored angle. With the BIRD, we’ve created an entirely unique brewing style and device. We’re excited to see what the leading cafés and home baristas of the world do with it.”

Perfect Pairing with Weber’s Coffee Grinders

When used in combination with Weber’s Coffee Grinders, the BIRD helps baristas achieve a delicious and consistent brew every time. The simple grind-temperature-time recipe eliminates the hassle and technique required with pour-over setups. Whether you’re a coffee novice or a seasoned professional, the BIRD and Weber’s Coffee Grinders will elevate your brewing experience.

What’s Included and Availability

Each purchase of the BIRD includes the device itself, a stainless mesh reusable filter, 300 sheets of Abaca paper filters, a solid anodized aluminum Paper Filter Dock, and a rubber Drip Catcher for easy cleanup. The BIRD is priced at $360 (USD) and has a size of 85mm in diameter and 180mm in height.

A limited initial release of 1000 units will be available in two drops in January 2024. Higher volume production will begin in Spring 2024.
