Expocacer Becomes First Coffee Cooperative to Receive Regenerative Certification
Expocacer’s Commitment to Sustainability
Expocacer, the Cerrado Coffee Growers Cooperative, has achieved a significant milestone in sustainable coffee production. The cooperative has become the first in the world to receive the regenerative certification label, highlighting its dedication to ensuring high-quality and environmentally-friendly coffee.
Recognition from Regenagri and Control Union
The audit for the regenerative certification was conducted by Regenagri, a global entity focused on soil health and preservation, with certification from the British organization Control Union. This prestigious recognition solidifies Expocacer’s commitment to sustainable practices and responsible coffee farming.
Preserving Soil Health and Enhancing Agricultural Systems
Regenerative coffee farming focuses on practices that preserve soil health, increase biodiversity, protect water resources, and enhance the resilience of agricultural systems. Expocacer’s dedication to these principles, along with their various sustainability initiatives, has contributed to this remarkable achievement.
Expanding Certification and Automated Traceability
With support from the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Businesses (Sebrae), Expocacer has already certified 14 cooperative members this year. The cooperative aims to increase this number to 24 by the end of 2023. Additionally, Expocacer’s commitment to traceability, utilizing RFID technology, has been a distinguishing factor in obtaining the certification.
Global Distribution and Collaboration with Illy Caffè
The world’s first regenerative agriculture-certified coffee is now being distributed globally by the Italian brand Illy Caffè. In partnership with the Cerrado Coffee Growers Federation and Expocacer, this product is already available in 50 countries, with plans to expand to 140 countries by 2024. Coffee enthusiasts can enjoy the distinct notes of intense caramel in this sustainably produced coffee.
Achieving Value Expansion and Ensuring a Sustainable Future
Expocacer’s regenerative certification represents a significant milestone in value expansion for the cooperative. The achievement aligns with their core values of ecological correctness, economic viability, and social fairness. Flávia Nunes, Director of Operations and Logistics at Expocacer, emphasizes the importance of ensuring a supply without compromising future generations.
Established in 1993, Expocacer is located in Patrocínio, Brazil, and serves as a prominent promoter of coffee quality and the work of its members. With a strong focus on socio-environmental initiatives and contributions to the regional economy, Expocacer continues to lead the way in sustainable coffee production.
